MIKE FONG

Mike Fong has represented portions of the San Gabriel Valley in the State Assembly since 2022. His priorities include reducing homelessness, protecting the environment, expanding access to higher education, and helping businesses create jobs. Mike serves as Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee and Assembly Vice Chair of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus.

Prior to his election to the Assembly, Mike served as an elected trustee on the board of the Los Angeles Community College District. In this role, he worked to increase student access to higher education, expand workforce training, and improve the quality of educational opportunities available at nine local Community Colleges. Professionally, Mike previously worked as the Director of Policy and Government Relations for the City of Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. He also previously served as the East Area Director for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Mike’s long record of community service includes having served as a Commissioner in the City of Alhambra, on the board of Goodwill Southern California, and on the advisory board for LA’s BEST After School Enrichment Program. He also served as chair of the PBS Southern California Asian Pacific Islander Community Council, a member of the White Memorial Medical Center Community Leadership Council, as chair of the California Democratic Party Asian Pacific Islander Caucus, and as president of the Asian Pacific Alumni of UCLA.

A lifelong L.A. County resident, Mike holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Public Administration from California State University at Northridge.
